Identifying your fitting

Every item in this catalogue is listed by three things: thread standard, bore and gender. Establish those three from the fitting on your own machine and the catalogue narrows to a handful of parts.

Start at the machine outlet

Unscrew the high-pressure hose from the machine and look at what is left on the outlet.

A thread — a helical ridge running around the outside of a spigot, or around the inside of a socket — puts the machine in the threaded world this catalogue is built on. One adapter converts that outlet to M22 × 14 mm, 1/4″ or 3/8″, and from that point the wands, nozzles, foam cannons, guns and holders in the catalogue mate to it.

A click collar — a smooth sleeve pushed on and twisted, with lugs riding in slots and no thread anywhere on it — is a proprietary machine fitting. It reaches a thread only through an adapter cut to that machine's own lug pattern. This catalogue does not carry those adapters.

The three thread standards

M22 × 14 mm. A metric thread measuring 22 mm across the outside of the male thread, with a 14 mm stem running down the middle of it. This is the machine-side standard across the catalogue.

1/4″ and 3/8″. The accessory-side sizes. Each SKU that carries one states it in the item designation, at both ends where the part has two.

14 mm and 15 mm

Both bores use the same M22 outer thread, so from outside they look identical and they screw together without resistance. The difference is internal. The male fitting carries a stem down the middle of the thread; the female carries a socket; and the stem seals against the wall of that socket on an O-ring. 14 mm is the professional and petrol-machine size. 15 mm is the size fitted to most consumer electric machines.

A 14 mm stem in a 15 mm socket seats but does not seal. The thread pulls the two faces together and the assembly feels tight in the hand, but the stem stands clear of the socket wall it is meant to seal against, so the O-ring has nothing to bear on. The joint weeps at the shoulder as soon as the trigger is pulled, and the weep opens into a spray as pressure rises.

Suppliers are inconsistent here: many list both sizes as “M22” with no bore figure at all, and some label the socket “M22F” and the stem “M22M” without stating a bore anywhere. Every M22 fitting in this catalogue is M22 × 14 mm, and the bore is in the item name.

Measuring what you have

Measure across the stem of a male fitting, or across the mouth of a female socket, with a vernier caliper. The figure is the bore.

Without a caliper, the fit itself reads the difference: a 14 mm stem entered into a 15 mm socket rocks visibly before the thread engages, while a matched pair enters square and stays square. Compare the new fitting against one already known to seal on the machine.

Gender

The male end carries its thread on the outside of a spigot, with the stem down the centre. The female end carries its thread inside a socket. A joint is one of each. Two males will not join, and neither will two females.

Gender is stated on every SKU in this catalogue that has a fitment end, at both ends where the part has two.

Reaching the catalogue through one adapter

Once a machine's outlet has been converted to M22 × 14 mm, 1/4″ or 3/8″, the range behaves as one system: any wand, nozzle, foam cannon, gun or holder listed on the same standard and the opposite gender will mate to it, and to each other.

Where the outlet is already M22, measure the bore before ordering. The thread accepts a 14 mm fitting either way; the bore decides whether it seals.
